Yevhen "Rezhnik" Titarenko, co-director of the film, has joined a volunteer ambulance crew that takes the seriously injured from the battlefront to the nearest hospital. The rescue missions are dramatic. They have to avoid roadblocks and mined areas while lives are fought for in the back of the van. By contrast there is the everyday life beyond the frontline: family get-togethers, a christening, a day at the lake. Silvia Bauer
