Gregg Mitman

Gregg Mitman is an award-winning author and filmmaker, whose interests span the history of science, medicine, and the environment in the United States and the world and include a commitment to environmental and social justice. He holds a distinguished research chair at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is a guest research professor at LMU's Rachel Carson Center in Munich. His most recent books and films include EMPIRE OF RUBBER: FIRESTONE'S SCRAMBLE FOR LAND AND POWER IN LIBERIA (The New Press, 2021) and THE LAND BENEATH OUR FEET, a documentary on history, memory, and land rights in Liberia, which he co-produced and co-directed with Sarita West. THE LAND BENEATH OUR FEET had its German premiere at DOK.fest München 2017 and won the Best African Film at the 2017 San Francisco Black Film Festival, among other international awards.
