The renowned composer and musician, Ulrike Haage, presents a short summary of the relationship between music and film, incorporating the role of music in the artistic documentary film. With her composition for the film MERET OPPENHEIM – EINE SURREALISTIN AUF EIGENEN WEGEN she herself won the German Documentary Film Music Prize in 2014.

As a composer, pianist, sound artist and audio drama writer, Ulrike Haage is one of the most versatile artists in Germany. Coming from a jazz background, she has firmly established herself in the German theatre and audio drama scene through her activities at the interface between pop, art and avant garde. She started out playing the piano with the female big band, Reichlich Weiblich, and was a member of The Rainbirds from 1990-1999. As someone who constantly crosses boundaries, she has experimented with musicians such as Alfred Harth, FM Einheit and Phil Minton and worked for theatre productions in Zurich, Dusseldorf, Hamburg and Berlin. Since 2006 she has regularly worked with the drummer, Eric Schaefer.

We would like to thank Versicherungskammer Kulturstiftung for their support for this masterclass.
