An evening on aesthetic standpoints, narrative forms and other questions concerning documentary auteur film. The DVD series, “Dokumentarisch Arbeiten,” by Christoph Hübner and Gabriele Voss has already given us film discussions with Hans Dieter Grabe, Elfi Mikesch, Harun Farocki and Thomas Heise. In this special event, arranged together with the Goethe Institute and Edition Filmmuseum, we introduce the new double DVD “Dokumentarisch Arbeiten II.” Christoph Hübner, Gabriele Voss and Christian Lüffe will discuss the DVDs and there will be an accompanying film screening of “Herz Frank - Am Anfang war das Chaos,” an encounter with the Latvian documentary maker, Herz Frank, who passed away aged 87 on the 3rd March this year in Israel.
Herz Frank was one of the founders of the “Riga school of poetic documentary films” and received numerous honours and prizes for his films. The most well known of them are “10 Minuten alter” (1978) and “Es waren einmal sieben Simeone” (1985), which won the Golden Dove at Leipzig Documentary film festival among other awards.
