Eleven-year-old Nils feels like he has really made it when he is voted into the youth parliament of the holiday camp where he is spending his summer. But soon he is dropped in favour of the cool Enrico, who is already making out with girls. Nils just has to put up with it. He becomes an outsider; a target for the other kids’ teasing and violence. The idyll is spoilt and becomes a place for martyrdom. The directors originally intended to make a film about how democracy is learnt. Instead they witnessed at close range how a struggle for power can descend into bullying and how hierarchies are developed, establishing perpetrators and victims.
