KINDER DER SCHLAFVIERTEL

Germany 2005 – Director: Janna Ji Wonders Korinna Krauss – Original language: Russian – Subtitles: German – Length: 35 min.

“They want me to be normal, but I want to be colourful.”
These are the children of the "dormitory towns": young punks on the outskirts of Moscow, who spend their time drinking and smoking - in their bedrooms, beside old railway tracks or in the flickering neon light of the bleak communist tower blocks. They go to eat at grandma’s place - but her ideals are fading away in the concrete jungle. There is nothing to fight for any more but there is something to fight against. Wasja and the others have a dream: they want to make music.

The directors allow us an insight into the world of these young punks through candid interviews, aesthetically composed images and the creative use of their music and its lyrics.
