Mr Zhu works in a Chinese Restaurant in Vienna. Having been re-settled under Mao's regime he seized the chance of a dream life in Europe. Sadly, ten years down the line, reality for him has become the daily grind of a life in a Chinese restaurant. He has no day off, no free time and little contact with the outside world and even if he did he speaks no German. Yet Mr Zhu lives and loves through his work. With the help of his wife and daughter he runs his restaurant and recounts his life story; from why he never learnt German to what makes him happy. In the kitchen he speaks to his clientele through his skill and precision work, be it carving meat or carrot roses, with the greatest of love and attention to detail. The dishes he prepares represent a culinary and sensory feast. But, for Mr Zhu the icing on the fortune cookie is that he is lucky enough in life to do the thing that he loves the most.

This film invites us to discover the mysteries of abstract art; the "pure world of sensation"; the construction of fantasy that opens up associative spaces of thought for the viewer. Jürgen Partenheimer, internationally one of the most significant German artists of his generation challenges viewers with his paintings, drawings and sculptures, which question "the appearance of things". In his atypical work he creates new and unusual ways of perceiving the world and reality - through the nomad perspective. For nearly thirty years he has always managed to see the things of this world as if for the first time and to find a way of expressing this experience in his painting. Thus he creates ambiguous surfaces of projection, which allow each viewer to reflect on their own way of seeing and start to really "see". He explains his mythology of colour, of red, blue, yellow, white, grey, black and their uses. Partenheimer's art isn't limited to a canvas. His own house is part of his art. It is reduced to the essential, a place that can be experienced by the senses. The camera follows his recommendations, discovers spaces, rhythms, colours and shares the experiences and the thoughts of the artist.

FLIGHT INTO REDNESS

"You can actually fly in your imagination with just one feather (…) a flight into scarlet or a flight into redness, a flight full of fire and blood. That's what magic does. You start with a colour, a texture, some light and you imagine a whole story out of that moment." The Scottish poet John Burnside gains his creative power from his intimate relationship with the nature, a world of landscape and light. His home, Scotland, is his inspiration. He composes his poems on long walks along the coastline of Fife. The words come to him through his spiritual awareness of the elements, especially light.

The poet uses Russian writer Mandelstam's technique when creating his poems: "The idea of 'composing on the lips' is that nothing is written down until the whole poem exists in the head or on the lips. The sound of the poem exists before it is written on paper. Before the poem is a visual object, it's a sound." Poets rarely allow insight into their thoughts and their poetic process of creation. John Burnside's words take us far beyond everyday urban life, on a sensual and magical journey through imagination, nourished by Weilepps beautiful filmic images.
