“Why can man never truly be loved?“ For the last two decades Michael Houellebecq has been confronting us with questions such as this. It is hard not to be affected by his precise analyses of personal impulses and his voracious search for meaning and happiness through the consistent denial of hasty reconciliation, romanticisation and false comfort. To some he is a sexist nihilist, to others a modern Pessoa. In LAST WORDS a highly aesthetic camera observes the author as he works on the script of his first film. However the film turns out, you don’t have to love Houellebecq to be fascinated and inspired by his radical world-view.
