His passion is rap and his biggest dream is to be famous. But Nils, aka Slin Craze, raps in the Sami language, which is only spoken by 20,000 people.
BERLIN – DIE SINFONIE DER GROSSSTADT – BERLIN – SYMPHONY OF A GREAT CITY (Deutschland 1927, Walter Ruttmann, DOK.special). A day in the life of the capital city of Berlin. 90 years since its premiere, Walter Ruttmann’s documentary still captivates audiences with its intoxicating pace and hypnotic images. Tobias PM Schneid’s new film score brings the twenties back to life.
FROM MAO TO MOZART – ISAAC STERN IN CHINA (USA, China 1979, Murray Lerner, DOK.special). With China as a backdrop, the American violinist, Isaac Stern, demonstrated his stupendous ability and helped young musicians find a new appreciation of music. The film bears witness to an era of cultural rapprochement after the cultural revolution, accompanied by the sounds of Mozart.
GIMME SHELTER (USA 1970, Albert Maysles, DOK.special). The momentous Rolling Stones concert at Altamont Speedway in 1969 had fatal consequences: a fan was stabbed to death by the Hells Angels security guards. The filmmakers were live on the scene. From the band’s performance, backstage footage, concert preparations and the fateful events, they crafted an idiosyncratic and controversial musical document.

But what about when your father still performs on stage as the frontman of a heavy metal band? This depiction of a father-son relationship is loud but has surprisingly quiet interludes.
SONITA – SONITA (Deutschland, Iran, Schweiz 2015, Rokhsareh Ghaem Maghami, DOK.international). 18-year-old Afghan, Sonita, is a rapper. She lives “sans papiers” in Teheran and dreams of a future as a hip hop star. Yet her mother wants her to be married in Afghanistan and her bride price is supposed to pay for the wedding of her older brother.
THE REVOLUTION WON'T BE TELEVISED (Senegal 2016, Rama Thiaw, DOK.horizonte). Senegal 2012: The 86-year-old incumbent president, Abdoulaye Wade, runs for office a third time, calling the constitution into question. The people protest. A film about revolution, the mobilising strength of hip hop and a youth that takes its destiny into its own hands.
TRAPPED BY LAW – NAKHINO (Deutschland, Kosovo 2015, Sami Mustafa, DOK.transit (up to 2018)). Two brothers are deported overnight to Kosovo, the land of their parents. They have just 50 Euros in their pockets and they don’t even speak the language. Sami Mustafa closely follows the pair for three years on a rollercoaster ride between two worlds.

After a life-changing accident, Robert Wolf’s ever-loving wife plans their future together, while the guitarist from Quadro Nuevo, who is paralysed from the neck down, takes the decision to end his life.
