Here you can find an overview of all the films. The programme booklet can be viewed here.
KANDAHAR JOURNALS (Afghanistan, Canada, United States 2015, Louie Palu, Devin Gallagher, DOK.international). Photojournalist, Louie Palu, witnessed a suicide attack in Afghanistan. From 2006 to 2010 he continued to work in the Kandahar region, filming and photographing on the front line and experiencing the horrors of war up close. A psychological self portrait – brutal and disturbing.
THE FEAR OF 13 (United Kingdom 2015, David Sington, DOK.international). A man condemned to death tells his story. Graphically and animatedly he recalls his fate. Sometimes fictional scenes accompany his words as he tells an unbelievable story of escape and of life.
DEPROGRAMMED (Canada 2015, Mia Donovan, DOK.panorama). Since the 1960s, Ted Patrick, the inventor of “reverse brainwashing” has made it his business to free young people from the claws of religious sects and cults – at times against their own will and using unorthodox methods. What is permissible when a person’s free will is in danger?
GOD BLESS THE CHILD (United States 2015, Robert Machoian, Rodrigo Ojeda-Beck, DOK.panorama). Five children spend a summer’s day without supervision from their parents, free of any rules. In loosely connected snapshots and powerful light-flooded images this American indie film pays homage to the anarchist force of childhood.
