The film programme of DOK.fest München. At the cinema. At home.
3 to 14 May 2023 at the Munich venues
8 to 21 May 2023 @home
As always, DOK.fest München opens the view out to the world: with 130 of the best and most current international documentaries from 55 countries. Our goal is the greatest possible participation in our films, which is why we bring them to the big screen in Munich cinemas as well as to home screens throughout Germany: DOK.fest stays dual.
A HOUSE MADE OF SPLINTERS (Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Ukraine 2022, Simon Lereng Wilmont, DOK.international Main Competition). A children’s home in eastern Ukraine – and the question of how moments of hope can arise amid suffering.
CHILDREN OF THE MIST (Viet Nam 2021, Ha Le Diem, DOK.horizonte Competition – Cinema of Urgency). Facebook and bride kidnappings – girls’ dreams and traditions in the mountains of North Vietnam.
IF YOU ARE A MAN (Burkina Faso, France 2022, Simon Panay, DOK.horizonte Competition – Cinema of Urgency). 13-year-old Opio does dangerous work in a gold mine so that he can go to school.
LEJOS DE CASA – FAR AWAY FROM HOME (Mexico 2022, Carlos Hernández Vázquez, DOK.horizonte Competition – Cinema of Urgency). In a shelter in Tijuana, children and young people dream of life in the USA.
THE ONE WHO RUNS AWAY IS THE GHOST – 九樓日記 (China, Germany 2021, Qinyuan Lei, DOK.panorama). A magical concrete jungle. Two children cast a spell over a Chinese electronics market.
IMAD'S CHILDHOOD (Sweden 2021, Zahavi Sanjavi, BEST OF FESTS). Imad doesn’t like toys. He likes decapitated dogs. Imad is four and a half years old and was captured by the IS.
