Marketplace 2020

As a platform for ideas and coproduction, the Marketplace invites around 45 selected documentary film projects in development stage to Munich every year. Here they meet experts such as commissioning editors, producers, funding representatives, distributors and sales agents.

The aim is to offer relevant film ideas a suitable forum through targeted matchmaking, to provide valuable feedback, to enable new co-productions and thus help them to become realised.

This year, the Marketplace will take place online from 07 to 12 May 2020. Detailed information on the adapted formats of the selected projects and Expert.innen will be available here shortly. Marketplace – awards

Master's Pitch – A Unique Format for Training and Collaboration

Selected projects with particularly strong international potential will be presented to the public along with keynotes and statements from top-class international experts. The aim of the Master's Pitch is to make the decision-making process of the industry transparent and to create a platform for exchange and cooperation.
In collaboration with Documentary Campus. Review 2019

In moderated 90-minute Roundtable Sessions, filmmakers discuss their latest projects in an exclusive and pleasant atmosphere with commissioning editors, producers, distributors, sales agents and funders.

Extended One-to-One

To complement the discussions in the roundtables and after the pitchings, the Marketplace offers carefully curated One-to-One Meetings of 15 minutes each. The meetings will be arranged in advance and during the marketplace upon request of the decision makers.

Marketplace Screenings

Up to 9 projects in rough cut will be presented in a closed screening buyers, distributors, sales agents and festival curators. Among them are 3 rough cuts from Germany, 3 from Switzerland and 3 from this year's guest country Canada. Supported by SWISS FILMS, the Québec Government Office, Telefilm Canada and the Bavarian State Chancellery.

International trainings and opportunities Marketplace invites every year an international guest delegation to Munich - in 2020 we welcome filmmakers from Canada. In addition, teams from Québec and Bavaria develop and present their projects as part of the two-year QC+BY Doc CoPro training initiative.
