93QUEEN (United States 2018, Paula Eiselt, DOK.panorama). Rachel "Ruchie" Freier from Brooklyn is an Orthodox Jewish woman, mother of six children, lawyer and wildly determined to turn patriarchy in her community upside down: She founds the first volunteer women's rescue service for women. Director Paula Eiselt accompanies the courageous mission. She succeeds in gaining a multi-layered insight into the religious Jewish life of Brooklyn.
VERTEIDIGER DES GLAUBENS (Germany 2019, Christoph Röhl, DOK.panorama). As Benedict XVI, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger was only the second pope in the church’s long history to resign from his position as God’s representative on earth. This film tells the story of a man who started out as a reformer, only to be defeated by modernity.
UNSETTLING (Israel, United Kingdom 2018, Iris Zaki, Best of Fests). A left-wing filmmaker from Tel Aviv “occupies” an Israeli settlement on the West Bank – with two chairs. Over the course of a month she waits with her camera rolling to meet the controversial settlers. Candid access to a callous conflict.
