DIGITALKARMA (Switzerland 2019, Francesca Scalisi, Mark Olexa, DOK.horizonte). Before she is married off by her family, Rupa first wants to build a career as a businesswoman. This is a noble goal for a young woman in Bangladesh, a country with significant social constraints and family traditions.
100 MILLION VIEWS (Germany, Israel 2019, Itamar Rose, DOK.special). Itamar Rose sets out to discover the recipe for YouTube success. Supposedly, anyone can go viral. In his own attempt, the Israeli satirical activist and ineffective content creator comes up against gatekeepers and power monopolies: in short, anything but a democratic environment.
BELLINGCAT – TRUTH IN A POST-TRUTH WORLD (Netherlands 2018, Hans Pool, DOK.special). From the crash of flight MH17 in the Ukraine to the crimes of the Syrian regime: volunteer contributors to the investigative research platform, Bellingcat, allow us intimate insights into their work and demonstrate the power of open source investigations.
