DIGITAL IMMIGRANTS (Switzerland 2016, Norbert Kottmann, Dennis Stauffer, Student Award). Almost 40 years after the first PC the young people from back then have a date with their seniors’ group for a computer course. Here the future vision of a distant past meets the present day reality.
FIND FIX FINISH (Germany 2017, Mila Zhluktenko, Sylvain Cruiziat, Student Award). How does it feel to be a drone pilot – to track down and kill someone at a distance of thousands of kilometers? A visually thrilling essay on the topic of war – balanced between beauty and horror.
CINEMA FUTURES (Austria 2016, Michael Palm, DOK.panorama). A film about the present and future of film and cinema in the digital age. CINEMA FUTURES sketches out nightmare scenarios, cultural fears and auspicious utopias and includes interviews with well-known experts, archivists and filmmakers.
FREE SPEECH FEAR FREE (United Kingdom 2016, Tarquin Ramsay, DOK.euro.vision). Since he was 15 Tarquin Ramsay has had one question on his mind: what does free speech actually mean? In search of an answer he meets well-known whistle blowers, hackers and Hollywood stars. The journey of a 20-year-old into the heart of a global debate – forceful and fearless.
PRE-CRIME (Germany 2017, Monika Hielscher, Matthias Heeder, DOK.euro.vision). Software that predicts when and where a crime will be committed: it sounds like science fiction but this has long been established as a means for preventing crime. This investigative documentary film uncovers the new technology’s top-secret algorithms.
