The film programme of DOK.fest München. At the cinema. At home.
3 to 14 May 2023 at the Munich venues
8 to 21 May 2023 @home
As always, DOK.fest München opens the view out to the world: with 130 of the best and most current international documentaries from 55 countries. Our goal is the greatest possible participation in our films, which is why we bring them to the big screen in Munich cinemas as well as to home screens throughout Germany: DOK.fest stays dual.
COMEBACK (Slovakia 2014, Miro Remo, DOK.guest Canada). How do you get used to living in freedom after spending many years in a high security prison? Miro and Zlatko are about to be released. Can they escape the vicious cycle once and for all? They wouldn’t even bet on it themselves.
THE FEAR OF 13 (United Kingdom 2015, David Sington, DOK.international Main Competition). A man condemned to death tells his story. Graphically and animatedly he recalls his fate. Sometimes fictional scenes accompany his words as he tells an unbelievable story of escape and of life.
STARLESS DREAMS – ROYAHAYE DAME SOBH (Iran 2016, Mehrdad Oskouei, DOK.horizonte Competition – Cinema of Urgency). A group of girls in a young offenders institution: prostitutes, drug addicts, thieves and murderers. Raped by their uncles and tormented by their mothers - behind bars, they can be young and feel safe. Sophisticated, delicate images of an insular world.
UKRAINIAN SHERIFFS (Germany, Latvia, Ukraine 2015, Roman Bondarchuk, DOK.panorama). Viktor and Volodya are very busy provincial sheriffs: maintaining peace and order in the Ukrainian village of Stara Zburyevka is no easy task. A tragicomedy set against current political events.
TRAPPED BY LAW – NAKHINO (Germany, Kosovo 2015, Sami Mustafa, DOK.transit (up to 2018)). Two brothers are deported overnight to Kosovo, the land of their parents. They have just 50 Euros in their pockets and they don’t even speak the language. Sami Mustafa closely follows the pair for three years on a rollercoaster ride between two worlds.
