From 26 April to 19 May 2019, photographer Tom Gonsior's large-format images show the unique landscape around a buried village on the Cape Verdean volcanic island of Fogo.
TANZ AUF DEM VULKAN – JUST ANOTHER DAY IN PARADISE (Deutschland 2019, Maya Reichert, Münchner Premieren). In striking imagery, smouldering lava spews out over the idyllic volcanic island of Fogo – a symbol of the blessings and curses in the lives of the three protagonists, who have courageously defied fate to find love, happiness and a home away from home on the Cape Verde Islands.

THE WHALE AND THE RAVEN (Deutschland, Kanada 2019, Mirjam Leuze, DOK.international). The remaining residents of the First Nation settlement on Canada’s rough west coast have a profound relationship with nature, in particular whales. Two researchers, Janie Wray and Hermann Meuter, share the spirituality of the indigenous people. A moving filmic message from whales to humans. – English with German subtitles
21.00 Uhr – FILM AND PARTY – CULTURECLUBBING
WOODSTOCK (USA, Deutschland 2019, Barak Goodman, DOK.panorama). Woodstock was the pinnacle of the hippie era. Half a million people danced to the bands of the moment in peace and in the pouring rain. WOODSTOCK tells its story through archive material and the many voices of those who worked for the festival back then and catapults us through space and time right into the heart of summer 1969.

BOY OF WAR (Deutschland, Tschechische Republik 2018, Cyprien Clement-Delmas, Igor Kosenko, DOK.special). 18-year old Artiom feels a calling: he must go into battle – for his “mother,” Ukraine. He will save her, he thinks. With childlike naivety he treks through forests and ruins, his gun at the ready playing war and practicing for war - until the harsh reality catches up with him.

STRESS (Deutschland 2018, Florian Baron, DOK.special). In slow motion and accompanied by an oppressive collage of sound, the experience of five young veterans from the war in Afghanistan unfolds. Without showing any violence, Florian Baron gives us an intimate insight into the after-effects of the front line. – English original version

BRUCE LEE & THE OUTLAW (Niederlande, Großbritannien, Tschechische Republik 2018, Joost Vandebrug, DOK.international). Nicu, a young homeless kid, lives in the tunnels under Bucharest with the criminal known as Bruce Lee, the king of the underworld. The home that Bruce offers is supposedly safe, but when Nicu becomes seriously ill, everything suddenly changes and the youngster gets a chance at a different life. – Original with English subtitles
