Film literacy programme DOK.education

DOK.education is the year-round educational programme of Germany's largest documentary film festival DOK.fest München. The DOK.education offer is aimed at school classes and teachers as well as interested young people and families, all year round and during the festival in May.

In addition to work in film reception, film practice, teacher training, face-to-face workshops for school classes and an annual youth film competition. The heart of this programme is the Schule des Sehens (School of Seeing), which runs around 50 school class workshops for three age groups in the cinema. Through DOK.education's initiatives with numerous cultural institutions, TV institutions and schools, project director Maya Reichert has built up a large qualitative network in which the artistic narrative documentary film is always at the center.

All DOK.education projects combine media literacy and cultural education: artistic documentaries tell real stories in cinematic images. They offer a variety of approaches to encourage children and young people to look closely, to recognize the art of filmmaking, and to raise their awareness of different levels of truth and reality in cinematic storytelling.

Learning to read film is a skill that is more important than ever these days. Our film educators show how the creative stylistic devices of film affect us and trigger emotions. Our centerpiece is the Schule des Sehens, a film education project for school classes in Munich and sourrounding areas and in the online version for schools throughout Germany. You can find the full range of our services here on our website.

We would be happy to add you to the mailing list for our education-programme newsletter

Our programme is mostly held in German language. For any questions, please contact us.
