Guiding and implementing film projects in the classroom

In the documentary film competition for young people, children and teenagers explore topics that are important to them. Behind the scenes, committed teachers guide and support their students, offering holistic learning opportunities through their film projects. Making documentary films promotes individual creativity and helps the group grow together as a team. The results can surprise everyone.

We asked teachers how practical film projects can be successful and what the added value is for both pupils and teachers.

 

Sascha Gratza

The trained interior designer develops training courses and seminars on the topic of ‘Animated and experimental film in schools’ for teachers and pupils. Alessandra Farallo

The art and film teacher studied art education at LMU Munich and the Academy of Fine Arts. She completed the multiplier training programme for teachers in the field of film and theatre at the Academy for Teacher Training in Dillingen and has been teaching film at secondary schools for 20 years. Training to become a film teacher is an important component of film education in Bavarian schools and is aimed at teachers of all school types. The four-week qualification course is offered by Drehort Schule e.V., an association for the promotion of film and media literacy in Bavarian schools, at ALP Dillingen. In addition to the areas of feature films, animated films and music videos, Maya Reichert (Founder of DOK.education) currently leads the module ‘Documentary Film with Students’.
