Dr. Verena Schmöller
Journalist and writer
Verena Schmöller is a freelance journalist, author, and presenter. She studied languages, economics, and cultural studies with a focus on Spain and Latin America at the University of Passau, completed a journalism training program with an internship at MFG Filmförderung, and earned her Ph.D. in film and media studies from the University of Passau in 2012. Since then, she has worked as a freelance journalist and author, writing for publications such as the Münchner Merkur, kino-zeit.de, KinderFilmWelt, and the Kinder- und Jugend-Filmportal. She has a particular passion for feature films and documentaries from Spain and Latin America, as well as thoughtful children’s films that tell relatable stories and broaden the perspectives of both children and adults.
As a presenter and film educator, she shares her enthusiasm for the cinema as a place of experience at the Fünf Seen Filmfestiva and the SchulKinoWoche Bayern, and writes teaching and educational materials for Kinofenster and Vision Kino. She conducts teacher training workshops in film analysis and film education, mentors W-Seminar classes, and is available on a freelance basis for teacher training at schools and school class projects.
