Cinema at its best! – Premieres at Deutsches Theater
From 8 to 12 May, the 34th DOK.fest Munich 2019 will present nine documentary film premieres on five evenings at the Deutsches Theater Munich.
After the screening, the stage will be handed over to the filmmakers presenting their works in person.
The public, international guests and industry representatives will have the possibility to connect with each other at reception events and to round off the evening's viewing in the Deutsches Theater's courtyard.

THE WHALE AND THE RAVEN (Deutschland, Kanada 2019, Mirjam Leuze, DOK.international Main Competition). The remaining residents of the First Nation settlement on Canada’s rough west coast have a profound relationship with nature, in particular whales. Two researchers, Janie Wray and Hermann Meuter, share the spirituality of the indigenous people. A moving filmic message from whales to humans. – English with German subtitles

ANTHROPOCENE: THE HUMAN EPOCH (Kanada 2018, Jennifer Baichwal, Nicholas De Pencier, DOK.focus humaNature). Every year up to 100 billion tonnes of material is removed from the earth. Three quarters of the areas of our planet that are not covered in ice are cultivated or inhabited by people. WOODSTOCK (USA, Deutschland 2019, Barak Goodman, DOK.panorama). Woodstock was the pinnacle of the hippie era. Half a million people danced to the bands of the moment in peace and in the pouring rain. RESSACA – VERTIGE DE LA CHUTE (Frankreich, Brasilien 2018, Rimbaux Vincent, Patrizia Landi, DOK.international Main Competition). Rio de Janeiro’s Teatro Municipal is the jewel of the nation’s opera scene but it is on the brink of collapse: the state is bankrupt and can no longer pay the employees’ salaries. BR kinokino Publikumspreis: ANOTHER REALITY (Deutschland, Schweiz 2019, Noël Dernesch, Olli Waldhauer, DOK.deutsch Wettbewerb). In Germany’s big cities, members of families involved in crime live in a parallel world. Young men with well-kempt beards, bulging muscles and big cars let us into their homes and share their dreams. DIE ROTE LINIE – WIDERSTAND IM HAMBACHER FORST (Deutschland 2019, Karin de Miguel Wessendorf, DOK.focus humaNature). Germany can only meet its climate targets if it shuts down its lignite-fired power plants. But the energy company RWE wants to continue mining lignite in the Rhineland.
