Award winning project 2026: THE ABSENCE OF 1

Varduhi Balyan and Beste Yamalıoğlu

Haunted by the devastation of the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war, the director returns to her ancestral village in search of traces of coexistence. Together with Arshak, a hunter and photographer from her childhood, she assembles an archive of Barum, a lost village once shared by Armenians and Azeris, tracing collective grief as the camera turns inward showing how patriarchal structures reproduce harm.

Statement

"We would like to award the project THE ABSENCE OF 1 directed by Varduhi Balyan and produced by Beste Yamalıoglu.
Our award consists in a free submission to our co-production forum (usually worth 120€) and two free professional accreditations (each valued 300€)."
