Schule des Sehens 2026

In a 90-minute workshop in the extracurricular learning environment cinema, your students get to see an age-appropriate short documentary film on the big screen. Based on teamwork assignments, the students answer various questions relating to the topic as well as the style of the respective film. Thereby, children and young people learn how to read films in a differentiated way and are playfully motivated to use media critically and confidently.

The documentaries we choose narrate at eye level and with artistic standards from the perspective of young people. The workshops are conducted by film experts trained in media education and in most cases accompanied by the respective filmmaker. For special schools and German language classes, we offer the Schule des Sehens in simple language.

During the 41st DOK.fest München in May 2026 our cinema-workshops will take place at Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film (HFF) München, Pasinger Fabrik and Gasteig HP8.

The educational programme of Schule des Sehens is only available in German language.

Film selection

DOK.education introduces children and young people to the powerful and moving experience of documentary storytelling through compelling films. We want to inspire the younger generation with artistic documentary films and spark discussions about the film's theme and documentary storytelling. The aim is to familiarize young viewers with the stylistic devices and possibilities of artistic documentary film in the field of cinematic staging of a real story. This particularly applies to the experience that documentary films also convey an artistically designed form of reality—through the selection of protagonists, camera work, and editing. In terms of content, the focus is on the living environments and/or perspectives of children, young people, and young adults.

For the Schule des Sehens we select creative short documentaries between 10 and 30 minutes in length that tell stories artistically and on an equal footing, and whose themes appeal to young viewers. Children and young people who can evaluate the films from the perspective of the target audience assist us in the final selection of films.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to this year's youth jury for their support in selecting the films!

Junior Jury 2026: Sofia Stemmer, Frida Stegmüller, Mira Riedl, Vincent Sanna, Anna and Juliana Zimmermann, Elisa Birner, Josephine Klöckner, Ria Barnhart, Fridolin and Josefina Websky, Noah Leopold, Ruben Zantl-Gaffney, Margareta and Olivia Roever.
