In the years after Mao Zedong’s death, a young, experimental and democratically-oriented art scene developed in China. The filmmaker Ronja Yu returns to the haunts of her youth and spends time with the protagonists of this movement: sculptors and rock stars, painters and performance artists, many of whom left the country after 1989. Born in Beijing, the filmmaker migrated to Sweden in 1989. Today she lives in Santa Cruz, USA. She has been making documentaries since 1999. She studied acting in Stockholm and film studies at San Francisco State University.
