THEY CALL ME BABU

Netherlands 2019 – Director: Sandra Beerends – Original language: Indonesian – Subtitles: English – Length: 78 min.

Alima is one of the countless “Babus” who worked as nannies for the colonial rulers in the Dutch East Indies of the 1940s. Her fictional story, told through archive material, is a touching record of the time.

We present the German premiere of the film at DOK.fest München 2020 @home.
