As a child, she was placed in an orphanage. She ran away – again and again. Nobody could hold her down and her voice came and went like waves breaking in the sea. She sang of poverty, slavery and desire. Morna and Coladeiras are seen today as part of the world’s cultural heritage; back then, they were local music.
