For Yi girls in the Liangshan region, this marks the time for the traditional skirt-changing ceremony, which marks the transition from girlhood to womanhood. Together with her two best friends, Qihuo sets off to receive her skirt. A beautifully filmed hybrid about the final days of childhood. P.B.
Biography
Dongnan Chen studied documentary filmmaking at New York University and is based in China and the USA. Her films have been screened at international festivals, and she was nominated for an Emmy for her short film SOUND OF VISION. With WHISPERS IN MAY, she won the DOX:AWARD in the main competition at CPH:DOX in Copenhagen.
