DOK.education at the VISION KINO Kongress 2025

Film connects – networks for film education: this was the motto of the 10th VISION KINO Congress in Hamburg from 16 to 18 June 2025 – Germany's most important platform for everyone involved in film, cinema and education. Also present: Maya Reichert and Kathi Seemann, who contributed their experiences and formats from DOK.education.

For two days, filmmakers, educators, cinema operators, distributors and representatives from cultural and educational policymaking discussed how film mediation and film education can be shaped for the future. Among other things, the focus was on the following questions: How can sustainable networks be established? How can film education be structurally anchored in schools and cinemas? And what does fair, high-quality mediation work look like – especially in the documentary sector?

Maya Reichert, who will be Deputy Director of DOK.fest München from the autumn and has been Director of DOK.education for many years, presented the model of the Schule des Sehens, which has been built up over many years, in her presentation “'Mehr als Fortbildung: Lehrkräfte-Netzwerke nachhaltig sichern”' – a best-practice example of how film education can be permanently anchored in everyday school life through further training, regional cooperation (including with Drehort Schule e.V. and ISB Bayern) and strategic networking. Their focus: the artistically narrative documentary film as a medium of film education.

Kathi Seemann, who currently heads the implementation of DOK.education, was represented with a booth at the network exchange and was able to talk for two days about formats, materials and approaches to film education work – among others with teachers, filmmakers and educational actors from all over Germany.

The AG Filmvermittlung, which is in the process of being founded, was represented at the congress by a total of 8 people and was actively involved in discussions about fair conditions, sustainable cooperation and the visibility of our professional field. DOK.fest München also encourages all film mediators to become part of this growing network.

With its presence at the VISION KINO Congress 2025, DOK.fest München not only showed the diversity of its network, but also how central the professional field of film mediation is for the film cultural education landscape and the film industry.
