58,000 people gathered to celebrate documentary film

The final summary of the 41th DOK.fest München: a total of 58,000 visitors. In cinemas (6–18 May), 40,500 viewers and guests attended screenings and events. 80 per cent of the festival films were available to watch online from 11–25 May as part of DOK.fest München @home. Here and in the digital classrooms of DOK.education, a further 17,500 viewers joined in. In total, DOK.fest Munich thus reached 58,000 visitors, significantly exceeding the previous year’s figure (55,500).
Adele Kohout (Festival Director): "We are delighted with the tremendous response. The significant increase in cinema attendance is an encouraging sign for the industry. The cinema is the best place for documentary films and a space for discussion and exchange – and is therefore more important than ever in these times. Many people have a keen interest in socially relevant, artistically powerful documentaries, but are unable to come to the cinema for various reasons. That is why DOK.fest München @home remains an important addition, and the consistently high visitor numbers bear this out. Over the past few days, we have received extremely positive feedback about the festival, and we would like to thank our team and all our partners and sponsors who made this successful edition possible. We are already looking forward to the 42nd DOK.fest München."
We’d like to say a big thank you! And we’re looking forward to the opening of the 42nd DOK.fest Munich on 5 May 2027!
