Schule des Hörens 2026 von DOK.education
For over ten years, DOK.education's Schule des Sehens has been giving students access to artistic narrative documentary film. Thanks to the generous support of Franz Grothe-Stiftung, we are delighted to be able to expand DOK.education's prestigious school program with a new project: With the Schule des Hörens, we promote creative access to the world of film music and make sound tangible as a dramaturgical element.
Schule des Hörens focuses specifically on the importance of sound, music, and composition in documentary storytelling, thereby highlighting the work of composers, musicians, and sound designers. During the 41st DOK.fest Munich in May 2026, DOK.education will offer a focus day entitled Schule des Hörens at the Pasinger Fabrik. Teachers can book a 90-minute workshop designed by a film educator together with a film composer. This provides a practical, in-depth look at the musical perspective on cinematic storytelling. Through viewing and listening assignments and discussions with filmmakers, film music becomes an experience as a means of artistic expression. One component of the program is an examination of artificial intelligence in music.
Teachers have access to comprehensive supporting materials for preparing and following up on the film. In the additional Online-Kinosaal, school classes experience how music shapes cinematic effects, conveys emotions, and helps tell stories. The digital video seminar is available for one year and can be used flexibly in various teaching contexts throughout Germany.
Franz Grothe-Stiftung was established in Bad Wiessee in 1960 by composer, pianist, and conductor Franz Grothe and is the legal successor to his entire artistic oeuvre. The associated archive is the point of contact for research purposes and serves to preserve his musical legacy. The foundation's purpose is to promote the art of music.
