“We couldn’t keep silent.” It is with these words that our journey into the devastated Ayeyarwaddy Delta in Burma begins. In 2008 Cyclone Nargis wrought destruction here leaving over 140,000 dead. Millions of people lost their homes. The government tried to prevent reporting of the disaster but some Burmese filmmakers set off in defiance of the authorities’ censorship to document the aftermath of the catastrophe. In this film they interweave victims’ stories with sensitive and harrowing images of a region left to its own devices._NARGIS shows, with a disturbingly universal resonance, people’s will for survival in a world that has fallen to pieces
