Bunkers—whether they are piles of rubble from a war that is gradually fading into oblivion, or spruced-up local history museums—the monuments to Germany’s wartime past still stand. A cautious and evocative exploration on the edge of Europe. J.S.

Biography

Jonathan Bugiel grew up in Berlin; his journey took him through Rome and Jerusalem before finally leading him to Bayreuth, where he studied media studies and ethnology. To pursue his film studies, he moved to the Italian Alps, where he graduated from the ZeLIG Film School in Bolzano in 2025.
