Reading: “FRANZ XAVER GERNSTL: Lucky Me! On Being on the Road, Filmmaking, and Life Itself”

For more than four decades, Gernstl has travelled the world for his cult BR series ‘Gernstl unterwegs’ (Gernstl on the Road). Whether on the Danube, in the Dolomites or in Ireland, he has always been interested in meeting people: what are their dreams, what paths do they find for their lives? His films tell of these encounters and of his curiosity about the lives of others. In his new book, Gernstl looks back on these years ‘on the road’: on formative encounters, surprising stories and what he never sought but nevertheless found. At the book launch, he will read from his book, show film clips and talk about travel, films and telling true stories.
