EIN TAG OHNE FRAUEN

Island, USA 2024 – Director: Pamela Hogan – Original language: English, Icelandic – Subtitles: None – Length: 70 min.

What would happen to a country if women stopped working for a day to strike for equality?

That's exactly what happened in Iceland: on a Friday in 1975, Icelandic women decided not to go to work in factories, schools, and airports, nor to do their work at home. They demanded equal pay and equal treatment to men. Ninety percent of women took part, bringing their country to a standstill. They began a struggle that gradually made Iceland the best place in the world for women. The documentary film EIN TAG OHNE FRAUEN tells the story of how this day came about from the perspective of the women involved. It traces the background of the women's movement and its achievements using a concrete example in a touching, informative, and humorous way. The revolutionary period is brought to life through playful animations. Released on the 50th anniversary of the strike, the film's message about the collective power of women to change society encourages us to think about what is possible.

Pamela Hogan is known for her work on WOMEN, WAR & PEACE (2011), EIN TAG OHNE FRAUEN (2024) and WIDE ANGLE (2002).
