The Russian opposition figure Alexei Nawalny was poisoned with Novichok in August 2020. Two days after the attempt on his life, he was evacuated to the Charité Hospital in Berlin in a critical condition and he returned to Moscow in January 2021. During this time, the assassination attempt is meticulously reconstructed with the help of Bellingcat’s data analysis. The film of the year! Silvia Bauer

NAWALNY was the opening film 2022 at the 37th DOK.fest München.

Festival director Daniel Sponsel: “When we were able to present the film 2022 at the opening shortly after the Russian army invaded Ukraine, it was already clear to our audience that Navalny is a man who is prepared to risk his life to fight Putin. The fact that he has now actually become a murder victim of Putin's cruel political system has deeply shocked us all. By showing this film, we want to give our audience the opportunity to meet this courageous man once again, whose legacy weighs heavily and will not be forgotten.”

Note

This film contains explicit depictions of police violence.
