Once a flourishing mining hub, today Pernik is the “most hostile city in Bulgaria.” Here, Tsetso, Dado and their hooligan pals rule the roost. In the stadium they intimidate the opposing fans, on the streets they prey upon foreigners. “I am not tolerant and I’m proud of it,” Tsetso leers into the camera. A glimpse into an abyss caused by a lack of prospects. Anne Thomé

Nikolay Stefanov
Nikolay Stefanov graduated with an MA in cinematography in 2003 and has worked as a cinematographer for most major production companies in Bulgaria for the last 18 years. Through his work for films, series, TV and commercials, he has gained extensive experience with different visual styles. Building on his cinematography background, he made his directorial debut with the feature-length documentary SHEARS, which was invited to European markets and festivals.
