The formal qualities of the films in our DOK.panorama competition are as diverse as their themes. They represent the diversity of documentary narratives, often celebrating their German – and international – premieres.

The sight of a disfigured face, far from the established beauty ideals, is difficult to bear. The same goes for those afflicted. A revealing portrait of women and men whose fate it is to fall outside the norm.
