Life at thirteen is not easy. Hansi, short for Johann, named after his father, his grand-father and his great-grandfather, has to fight a lot: at school against the older pupils who beat him up; and at home against his three sisters. And when he’s in trouble with one of them, he’s in trouble with all three. That’s why Hansi loves to play soccer, where he also has to fight, but not alone. On the pitch there are ten others to help him.
Hansi also likes his dog, especially because he’s a male, and he likes sitting with his dad, who works for a recycling company, in his truck. But, of course, what he likes most is being on the pitch. And although his coach thinks his game is "disastrous", Hansi and his team will do their best to make sure their defeat is as small as possible. And when they are beaten by only 6 to nil, the feeling of victory is not far away and, for once, even the coach is happy.
"Now come on, boys! Faster, come on! Bite bite bite!"

8 minutes and three attempts to describe one’s father - Ali Zojaji's short documentary is a sincere and touching little film poem dedicated to a father he would like to know better. Ali approaches cautiously, step by step. In his first attempt, we hear what other people have told Ali about his father, who emigrated from Iranto Germany, leaving everything behind to offer his son a better future. "A brother-in-law of my father's who lives in Teheran told me how my father felt when he had to ask me, a twelve-year-old boy, to write letters for him." The second attempt is a prose poem by Ali: "My father to whom I can't look up because he's three centimetres shorter than me, my father who goes to the cinema with me so we can sit next to each other, my father who is as proud of my life as if it were his own…" In the third attempt, we finally get to hear from the father. He is worried because his business with second-hand cars is not going well. But when he turns towards his son filming him, he smiles at him and says into the camera: "Everything is going to be ok. It won’t stay like this." Three attempts and a beautiful declaration of love to a father.

SOMMER IN VINGST

Kerim, Sascha, Mustafa and their friends live in Vingst, a small town in the suburbs of Cologne, where Turkish is the second language and even the Germans who grew up there speak fluent Turkish.
It is summer in Vingst. Kerim and the others are about to become adults and have to start taking responsibility for their lives.
But in a place with more than 20 percent unemployed, their dreams seem harder to fulfil than they had expected. They are all looking for a job or a training vacancy. But because there seems to be no room for them elsewhere, they spend their energy on the basketball court, organising parties, or just hanging around on the street, watching what goes on in this very close community where everyone knows each other.
They make the best out of this summer – a time that should have been a decisive and exciting, full of perspectives. They never give up: somehow, life goes on. And when everyone from the neighbourhood gathers for an improvised outside screening of the World Cup game between Turkey and Senegal, and the Turkish flag is hoisted, the sun seems to shine on Vingst.
