He may not be a megastar, but Klaus Voormann has certainly made his mark on the history of pop music. The artist and musician won a Grammy in 1966 for his sleeve art for the Beatles Revolver album. He has performed on stage with the likes of Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton and played on nearly every solo record ever made by John Lennon. In the 1980s he produced some of the hits of the Neue Deutsche Welle. When he first met the Beatles in 1960 Voormann was a 22-year-old art student living in Hamburg. The young and as yet unknown lads from Liverpool were impressed by his fashion sense and haircut and saw him as a sort of role model. They became friends and couple of years later Voormann lived with the Beatles in London. Brian Epstein signed his band. Later he became the bass player for Manfred Mann. As a graphic designer Voormann has worked with The Bee Gees, Jerry Lee Lewis, BB King and countless others. He is friends, to this day, with some of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, most notably Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. This is his story.
