“And we are not the only ones,” wrote two former pupils of one of Germany’s most famous boarding schools in an open letter in 1998. Nonetheless the systematic sexual abuse by teaching staff at the Odenwaldschule remained covered up. It was not until 2010 that new reports of the allegations emerged. Christopher Röhl, who himself spent two years at the school, gets behind the wall of silence and lets the teachers, pupils and, above all, the victims speak. Finally they are able to step out from behind the veil of secrecy and loneliness. Röhl asks how these incidents - in which more than a hundred pupils were abused and traumatised – could have been hushed up for years._A straightforward film borne out of bewilderment; a statement against silence.

The screening event offers the opportunity to participate in an in depth discussion afterwards with the director of the film and Christian Füller, the author of SÜNDENFALL. The discussion will be chaired by Tanjev Schultz, a journalist at SZ, who dealt extensively with the case.

The Up For Debate event is a collaboration with taz.
