“Who were the most important American songwriters after Woodstock?” According to Time magazine it was “Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Rodriguez.” In the seventies, Sixto Rodriguez appeared in bars with his guitar and performed his songs. Then he was discovered by some record company representatives who thought he could be the new Bob Dylan or Donovan. He recorded two albums that were loved by the press but that nobody wanted to buy. Rodriguez became a labourer and pub guitarist once again. But in South Africa he was a mega star back then. His songs became hymns for the anti-apartheid movement. In 1994 two of his biggest fans set off on a search for Rodriguez. This is the almost unbelievable story of a rediscovery. Dunja Bialas
