"We lost the river." There is no way back for the Cree Nation and their river in Quebec, Canada. Once a torrent, the River Rupert today is more like a stream. A massive hydroelectric power project, established by Hydro-Québec together with the government, impacts on several stretches of water in the region. The first contracts were made with tribe representatives in the 1970s. There followed an intense intrusion into the natural resources and the livelihoods of the Cree with poor hunting and depleted fish stocks. At the same time many people profited from the project, including the aboriginal people.
The director focuses on the human aspect behind this ecological transformation and thus remains objective. Maren Willkomm
