KLÄNGE DES VERSCHWEIGENS
Germany 2012 – Director: Klaus Stanjek – Original language: English, German – Subtitles: German – Length: 90 min.
“I never heard about it – but also it didn’t interest me.” This statement from the director’s aunt refers to a well-kept family secret: Uncle Willi was imprisoned in a concentration camp by the Nazis because of his homosexuality. It was only his acceptance into the camp orchestra that saved the musician from extermination.
65 years later Klaus Stanjek investigates the story of his beloved uncle. Accounts from relatives and former concentration camp prisoners, numerous documents and animated photographs draw a complex picture of the film’s subject. The reactions of those around him alternate between naivety, ignorance and avowal. Anja Klauck
