DER ELFTE TAG – DIE ÜBERLEBENDEN VON MÜNCHEN 1972

Germany 2012 – Director: Emanuel Rotstein – Original language: German – Subtitles: German – Length: 52 min.

On 5 September, the eleventh day of the up until then so peaceful Olympic Games in Munich, the event was overshadowed by the attack by Palestinian terrorists. The dramatic events, in which eleven hostages, a German police officer and five of the attackers lost their lives, have been reconstructed many times in films and documentaries. (...) For the first time, the story of those Israeli athletes who were on site at the time and narrowly escaped the assassins is told in detail. 40 years later, the survivors return and report from a perspective that has hardly been perceived so far. (...) What feelings still move them today - revenge, guilt, relief? What did they feel when the games continued with the famous words "the games must go on"? How were they received in Israel and what impact did the assassination have on their sporting careers and lives? (...) Supplemented by rare archive material and private footage of the Israeli team members, the documentary paints an intimate picture of those who experienced the horror first-hand. (History Channel)
