Grown-up, without ties and worn out. The Adopted programme offers lonely Europeans a second chance by arranging for them to be ‘godchildren’ to African families. The documentary ADOPTED accompanies three of these godchildren from Germany to Africa to meet their new extended families. Ludger, an actor, Thelma, a shop assistant, and Gisela, a pensioner, face the greatest adventures of their lives. Each of them longs for a feeling of security and each of them has different ideas about what is expected of them. Naturally it doesn’t take long for the first misunderstandings to occur._With subtlety and a gentle touch ADOPTED reveals the process of cultural rapprochement in the spirit of breaking down barriers and prejudices. A feelgood film with depth, humour and melancholy.
