"When I grow up I am going to be a jockey. Then I’ll have a proper racehorse." – In all likelihood ten-year-old Ricardo’s dream will never come true. He is a “cartonero” and trundles around in a horse drawn carriage with his friends Bebo and Pata through the wealthy areas of Córdoba. They collect rubbish and trade it in for money at a recycling centre. Sitting in the cart they talk shop, discuss the proper way to control a horse and make plans for the future. Ricardo’s sister tries in vain to convince him to go to school but he just wants to be able to carry on dreaming while the horse’s hooves hit the street with their distinctive beat. With close and intense scenes, YATASTO is a tender account of a life in poverty.
