VOICE OF A NATION: MY JOURNEY THROUGH AFGHANISTAN
Afghanistan, Netherlands, United Kingdom 2012 – Director: Jawed Taiman – Original language: Dari, English, Pashtu – Subtitles: English – Length: 52 min.
“Good morning Kabul!” Yohaniz, a youth radio presenter, greets her audience and describes how she wants to make Afghan society a little freer through the medium of radio. VOICE OF A NATION takes a distinct look at Afghanistan and lets the Afghan people have their say. En route through the provinces from Kandahar, via Bamyan to the Panjshir Valley, from Herat via Mazar-i-Sharif to Kabul, through urban and rural regions, in discussion with intellectuals and simple folk, politicians and Taliban fighters a multifaceted picture emerges of a country that is often portrayed as incomprehensible. The discussions with the Taliban and former Mujahedin are fascinating, as are those with women of differing ages who convey impressions and contexts that are otherwise hidden from Western media.
