Things. Places. Years. shows the impact of forced emigration and the Holocaust on the lives of three generations of women in London. In familiar surroundings, such as their homes or workplaces, they take time to remember the past, their origins, their escape from Nazi Vienna, and talk about their present experiences in London. "As their identities unfold, taking us to places in their minds where past and present are merged, we begin to realise how much the Holocaust" isn't confined to the past but is an inherent part of all our identities.

Katharina is the founder of the Second Generation Trust and works at the Wiener Library, the world's biggest Library dedicated to the Holocaust. Geraldine works to promote Jewish musical culture. Erica doesn't know what to say when her doctor asks her about genetic diseases in the family. How would she know, as her whole family was extinguished in the camps? Ruth pretends to her daughter that she's never been to Vienna. Having never had grandparents, being a grandmother herself now is a completely new, unusual and happy experience for her. These are quiet moments of reflection on our relationship to places and to things, to past and present; moments of silence and contemplativeness. A compelling film.
