Adelaide, a Colombian TV producer and one of the central figures in this film, as well as the one who in the voice-over leads the spectator into her world, loves her country. She acknowledges that to the outside world Colombia is mainly known for its excessive political violence and drug traffic. But she also shows that beauty exist in her country. There are certainly great problems, the chief source of misery being the ever-failing peace process between the guerrilla movements FARC and ELN and the government army. On the initiative of president Andres Pastrana, who was elected in 1998, peace talks known as "Plan Colombia" began in 1999, but the fighting keeps flaring up with great vehemence and ultimately the negotiations did not yield any results. Every time, the talks were postponed. Meanwhile, the human rights situation deteriorated in Colombia. According to the women in the film, there was never much chance of success, if only because the government is far too inexperienced in handling such conflicts and because peace is not attractive for FARC: they control a large part of (the drug trade in) the country and are very reluctant to give up this command. But despite the war, Colombia also has people who love each other and people who keep fighting for a better and more humane world.
