THE WORLD ACCORDING TO ION B
RO 2009 – Director: Alexander Nanau – Original language: English, Romanian – Length: 60 min.
He was once a downtrodden vagrant; these days he is a rising star of the international art world. For decades the homeless Romanian Ion B created artworks that nobody knew anything about. Until his discovery he had to sleep among the rubbish bins; now his pictures hang next to those of pop artists such as Andy Warhol in world-famous museums. The film recounts his story from the point of his discovery and accompanies him on his journey back into society. How does Ion B deal with his past and how does a Romanian gallery owner re-socialise him when people have been saying for years: “Other people keep pets – our caretaker keeps Ion B.”
